About Tobias Poole

For more than two decades, Tobias Poole has served WRTI-FM, the official radio station of Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1948 as a Temple University campus-limited AM station, WRTI-FM has grown to become the region’s largest classical music and jazz station. Mr. Poole joined the station in 1987 as a staffer and earned promotion to Chief Engineer in 1990 and General Manager in 1993; he currently serves as Operating Director. In addition, Tobias Poole acts as an Adjunct Professor for the university’s Department of Broadcasting Telecommunications and Mass Media.

In his role as Operating Director, Tobias Poole coordinates and manages customer service, engineering, legal and compliance issues, and overall quality of broadcasts. Responsible for creating and putting department goals and initiatives in place, Mr. Poole’s duties also include making sure the entire department operates effectively. He takes charge of managing the department’s resources and develops procedures that are consistent with the entire organization’s goals. As liaison between senior management and his department, Mr. Poole reports on strategy, goals, and work progress. He supervises a number of employees in both professional and administrative positions and conveys performance expectations to his team members. In addition, Tobias Poole handles corrective actions regarding his employees’ competency, performance, and productivity issues.

Tobias Poole brought a host of experience to his current position. He previously served as the Chief Radio Engineer for WBST-FM in Muncie, Indiana, and as a Radio and Television Engineer for WOUB-AM/FM and TV in Athens, Ohio; WOUZ-FM in Zanesville, Ohio; and WTLW-TV in Lima, Ohio. Tobias Poole holds membership in different professional organizations, including the Society of Professional Audio Recording Services, the Society of Broadcast Engineers Inc., and the National Broadcasting Society – Alpha Epsilon Rho. He formerly served as a board member for Musicopia (previously Strings for Schools), as well as WYBE public TV, and he holds lifetime membership in Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.

In 2008, Tobias Poole gained entrance into Temple University’s 20-Year Club, which honors those who have served the university for two decades. Mr. Poole attended Ohio University, where he earned an Associate in Applied Science in Radio Television Technology. After he graduated, Mr. Poole continued at Ohio University, where he won a McGraw Hill Scholarship and received a Bachelor of Science in Telecommunications Broadcast Engineering. Tobias Poole enjoys working out. In his free time, he works as Frequency Coordinator for the NFL and the Philadelphia Eagles; he also enjoys work in sound reinforcement for the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) Local No. 8.
